Bio

Kjersti Buaas was born in Trondheim, Norway and is unanimously considered the snowboarding ÒQueen of StyleÓ. Following in her sisterÕs footsteps, Kjersti started riding in 1994 with her first competitive breakthrough coming in 1996 when she won a local big jump contest and consequently received sponsorship. From there her competitive career took off and she began traveling with Roxy teammate Lisa Wiik, riding the Norwegian cup in 1997. In 1999 she won the World Junior Championships and launched her international career. In 2000 Kjersti signed her first professional snowboard contract, and won her first world cup contest that same year. Kjersti secured her place as the most stylish female when she ripped at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT, pulling the biggest air to fakies ever seen by a girl and finishing just outside of the medals in 4th place.

Kjersti was one of the few women invited to the prestigious Arctic Challenge in 2001 and has been invited back every year since then. At the 2005 Arctic Challenge she ranked 2nd in the big air contest with a big, and very stylish, frontside 720. Not surprisingly she was voted ÒQueen of StyleÓ by Onboard MagazineÕs readerÕs poll in 2004. 2009 has been a huge year competitively for Kjersti, with two wins at the Burton US Open in the Quarterpipe and Slopestyle events; she broke into to the TTR Top 10 rankings and is poised to win her fist World Title.

An international snowboard superstar, Kjersti is known for her smooth style and positive attitude. Although quite young, she is clearly one of the true ambassadors of the snowboarding spirit. For Kjersti, snowboarding is all about having fun with friends. Although she strives to do well in competitions, being recognized as a progressive, creative and stylish rider is of the utmost importance.

Kjersti has many interests outside of snowboarding and currently enjoys focusing on filming and shooting editorial pieces for international magazines. She is interested in projects that channel her creativity and show her versatility as a rider. Recently, Kjersti partnered with long-time Roxy rider Stine Brun Kjeldaas, to produce a series of snowboard lifestyle shows for Norwegian television. When she is home in Norway, Kjersti plays for a local football team.
